This fantastic hiking tour takes you on a journey through history and spectacular landscapes throughout the holy land. From the deserts of the Negev, to the streets of Jerusalem, the green hills of northern Palestine and around the Sea of Galilee, to the hospitality of Jordanian families and the majesty of ancient city of Petra.
Jerusalem – Explore this historical city.
West Bank – Hike through the beautiful hills of the northern West Bank.
Petra – Enter Petra via the back route past the Monastery.
Engage – Enjoy the hospitality of our local guides.
Day 1 – Arrival in Tel Aviv.
Transfer from Airport to Kibbutz Zuba in the Judean mountains. Dinner and overnight in the kibbutz hotel.
Overnight – Zuba Hotel or similar.
Day 2 – Hike in the Judea mountains from Zuba to Jerusalem – 13 Km.
Hike from Kibbutz Zuba to Tel Zuba, overlooking the Judea mountains, and the spring of Ein Zuba. Visit the Sataf park with its traditional agriculture. Desend to Wadi Sorek and hike to Ein Karem. Visit the local monasteries and churches. Hike into Jerusalem ascending Mount Hrzl.
Transfer with the local tram to Nablus gate.
Overnight – Hotel in Jerusalem.
Day 3 – Sightseeing in Jerusalem.
Visit the Mount of Olives overlooking Jerusalem, then walk down to the Garden of Gethsemane. Step into history exploring the streets of the Old City, exploring it’s four quarters. Walk the Via Dolorosa finishing at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. View the Western Wall and the Dome of the Rock on the Haram Al-Sharif/ Temple Mount.
Overnight – Hotel in Jerusalem.
Day 4 – Hike Wadi Qelt – 11Km.
Beginning near Jerusalem, hike down Wadi Qelt as it descends through the desert to the east and deepens into a spectacular canyon before emerging in the Jordan River Valley near Jericho. The valley forms a remote and secretive passage between these two ancient cities, and has been used by armies, monks, and smugglers for thousands of years. In the lower reaches of the valley, below the monastery of St. George, there are still hermits living in isolated caves in the side of the gorge. It is among the best known and most spectacular hikes in the West Bank, but remains a wild and challenging walk. The canyon opens out in the Jordan River Valley, and the trail arrives at the ruins of King Herod’s winter palace on the edge of Jericho.
Overnight – Auja Ecocenter.
Day 5 – Hike Sanur to Sebastia – 16Km.
Transfer north through the West Bank to the town of Sanur. Enjoy the mountaintop views of the Jordan Valley, the Mediterranean, and even Mt. Hermon on a clear day. Pass isolated, windswept remains of holy men’s tombs throughout the beautiful Mediterranean hill-country scenery. Finishing at the mostly-hidden remains of Sebastia, a once-grand Roman city. Transfer to Sheikh Hussein Border Crossing, and into Jordan.
Overnight – Sharhabil Bin Hassneh Ecopark.
Day 6 – Ajloun Castle and hike to Orjan – 16Km.
Transfer to Ajloun and visit the ancient castle dominating the Ajloun skyline and built to ward off the Crusader armies at the key trade and pilgrimage intersection between Jerusalem, Cairo, Damascus and Mecca. Hike past the olive groves Mar Elias, the birthplace of the biblical prophet Elijah, and pass the historic mosque in Listib. Finish at Orjan and enjoy Jordanian hospitalilty, with a traditional meal with a local family. Transfer to Petra.
Overnight – Bedouin Camp in Little Petra.
Day 7 – Petra – 10Km.
Marvel at the beauty of the ‘Lost City’, the Red Rose City of Petra, exploring its many caves and tombs. Walk through the canyon and be astounded at the magnificent Treasury, the entrance guarding the ancient Nabatean city, now one of the Modern 7 Wonders of the World. Hike past the Royal Tombs and up the steps to Jebel Khubtha, with a stunning view over the Treasury. Pass through the Collonaded Street and take the back route to High Place of Sacrafice.
Overnight in hotel in Amman.
Day 8 – Departure.
Transfer to airport in Amman, or optional transfer back to Jerusalem or Ben Gurion
All our tours are private tours, so we run it whenever you want. Just tell us the time and date you want to start.
All meals are included from dinner on day 1, to breakfast on day 8. Breakfast and dinner in hotels are buffet meals. Lunch is a pack lunch with all your water provided.
Transportation is provided in private, air-conditioned vehicles, with excellent drivers starting and ending in Amman.
Accommodations in a variety of forms: hotels and campsites. You just need to bring your own sleeping bag, or sheets, and we can provide blankets and mattresses.
