Day 1 – Arrival
Collection from the airport and transfer direct to your hotel. Depending upon your flight arrival time, we can offer additional activities for the day.
Overnight in Amman.
Day 2 – Jerash, Ajloun & Hike Ajloun to Orjan 12m (4hrs)
Head north to walk through history in Jerash, regarded as one of the most important and best preserved Roman cities in the Middle East. Then on to Ajloun and visit the castle, dominating the Ajloun skyline and built to ward off the Crusader armies at the key trade and pilgrimage intersection between Jerusalem, Cairo, Damascus and Mecca.
After visiting the castle, hike from Ajloun to Orjan, and spend the night with a local family in Orjan/Rasoun, and enjoy a homecooked meal.

Day 3 – Hike Orjan to Beit Idis – 20Km (6-7 hours)
Breakfast in your homestay, then we head out of the village of Orjan on dirt tracks past olive groves and up steeply to the top of the ridge. From here we can see caves in the cliff sides and nice views back to the Ayoun villages. We continue to the Qabla ruins where we can see remains of houses, caves and quarries. We head west down the forested Wadi Zubia passing a cave spring and more ruins. We follow the fence of the Kings Hunting Lodge at Birgesh en route to the village of Beit Idis. At the end of the walk you’ll be transferred back to Amman.

Day 4 – Sightseeing around Amman – Amman, Madaba and Mount Nebo.
Visit the old city of Amman exploring the Citadel and the Roman Theatre, two of the most popular archaeological sites in the city. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant to experience authentic Falafel and Hummus.
Then north to Mount Nebo and wonder at the view where Moses looked across to the Promised Land and later died and was buried. Then on to the town of Madaba and discover the amazing Byzantine mosaics excavated from throughout the town. See the ‘Madaba Map’, the oldest preserved mosaic map of the Holy Lands. On to Dana Nature Reserve.

Day 5 – Hike Dana to Feynan – 15 Km, 5-6 hours.
We start at the village of Dana. We explore the village that was largely abandoned by its residents when the villagers moved up the mountain for work to the village of Qadesieh near the new road. We wander around its charming streets and visit the Royal Society for Conservation of Nature center and gift shop with local crafts. Nearby are the orchards of the village with pomegranate, figs and other trees fed by a spring in the mountain channeled to the small plots. To the West are dramatic views towards the Araba Valley in the distance. We head down Wadi Dana that cuts through multiple geological layers to our eco-lodge at Feynan, lit by candles.

Day 6 – Hike Little Petra to Petra and the Monastery – 10 Km, 6-7 hours.
Start with a 2 hour jeep transfer up through the mountains overlooking Wadi Arava and on to Beidah, also known as ‘Little Petra’, a Natufian site dating back 10,000 years. Hike across the rock plateau and through a wadi to enter Petra from the back, arriving at El Deir, the Monastery. Continue down around the back of the roman colonnade to the High Place of Sacrifice for great views across the ancient city. Weather permitting, exit via the Dark Tunnel “Wadi Muthlim”, a beautiful and narrow passage, passing through a tunnel built by the Nabataeans to divert flood water from the Siq.

Day 7 – Petra Siq, The Treasury and Wadi Muthlim – 6 Km, 6-7 hours.
Start the day with perhaps the most well-travelled walk in Jordan, and deservedly so, the Petra Siq, the high canyon weaving it’s way to the entrance to the ancient Nabatean city of Petra, with the magnificent views of the Treasury. Enter the city and explore the sites and tombs.

Day 8 – Jeep Safari in Wadi Rum.
Transfer to Wadi Rum, passing the Seven Pillars of Wisdom, the rock formation named after Lawrence of Arabia’s writings, enter Rum Village and start a jeep safari into the remarkable landscape of Wadi Rum, the red rock mountains jutting out of the sand. Walk across rock bridges, visit Lawrence’s house and see ancient inscriptions. Overnight with your Bedouin guide in a camp, under a camel hair tent, or out under the stars.

Day 9 – Hiking in Wadi Rum.
Half day for further hiking in Wadi Rum, exploring the less travelled paths through the mountains and up to get some amazing views across the desert. Routes selected to suit the desires and ability of the group. Return to Amman.

Day 10 – Departure
Free day and transfer to airport. Depending upon the time of your flight, we can arrange optional tours such as Bethany Beyond the Jordan, where Jesus was baptized.
All our tours are private tours, so we run then whenever you want. Just tell us the time and date you want to start. The best time to hike is from September through May, as the summer is very hot
All meals from lunch on first day to dinner on last day. Lunch may be a light snack or picnic.
All tours are run in private, air-conditioned vehicles, with excellent drivers starting and ending in Amman. Some short local transfers will be in a open back 4×4 vehicle. Luggage transfer is included
Accommodations in a variety of possible options: local family stays; Cabins; Eco-lodge / camping.
