Welcome to Jordan’s window to the Red Sea. Aqaba is a small city at the southern tip of Jordan, famous for some of the most beautiful diving and snorkeling in the world.
Location at the northern tip of the Red Sea, the city has been (and still is) of great economic and strategic importance for hundreds of years.
Meals included: –
Overnight in Aqaba.
After enjoying your breakfast with a scenic desert view, you will be transferred to Little Petra where today’s hike begins. It will lead you to Petra via ‘The Back Door’, and the absolute plus point is: on this route you can avoid most fellow tourists.
Good tracks go pleasantly down Wadi Ghurab, amidst mighty sandstone mountains guarding the approaches to Petra. The way follows a Nabataean route out of the valley and skirts around the final mountain on a natural rock terrace which has been ‘improved’ for the safety of walkers. Even so, it still narrows slightly before reaching a hidden plateau high above the impressive chasm of Wadi Siyyagh. Just beyond, carved into the cliff face, ‘The Monastery’ suddenly comes into view. Close to the Monastery is a Bedouin café offering coffee, tea, and other refreshments.
After giving yourself a little time to rest, take a last look at the impressive monument and then head down on wide Nabataean steps into ancient Petra. From there, your route will take you through Wadi Muthlim (weather dependent) to your hotel accommodation in Wadi Musa, the modern city adjacent Petra.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Overnight in Petra (Wadi Musa).
In the early morning, after breakfast, you will head back into ancient Petra. This time, you will enter through the ‘Siq’, a 1km long narrow gorge which is flanked either side by 80m high cliffs! Notice the dazzling colors and formations of the rocks. Once the gorge opens, you will stand in front of ‘the Treasury’, Petra’s probably most famous structure. Take some time to take in the magnificent building. From there, set out to discover more of the massive world heritage site, such as some of the many elaborated rock-cut tombs, a Roman-style theater, temples, the sacrificial altar and colonnaded streets.
Later on this day we will transfer you to Wadi Rum, where you may (time permitting) enjoy a beautiful sunset. Then get a taste of the famous traditional Bedouin hospitality, and spend a memorable night under millions of stars.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch
Overnight at a Bedouin Camp in Wadi Rum.
After enjoying breakfast with a fantastic view, we will take you on a jeep tour through the desert scenery to the foot of Jabal Umm ad-Dami. The ride takes around 1-2 hours, depending on your camp’s location.
Jabal Umm ad-Dami (jabal means ‘mountain’), at more than 1,800 meters the highest peak in Jordan, offers you a whole new perspective of the desert from its summit. To the south, you can see the border to Saudi Arabia, to the north Jabal Rum and Wadi Rum Village. According to your ability, climbing to the summit and back to the desert floor takes approximately three hours. Once you arrived back at the foot of the mountain, enjoy a simple lunch cooked in the shade of the mountains.
We will then transfer you back to Aqaba.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch
Overnight in Aqaba.
After a last relaxed breakfast, we will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to the Airport close to Aqaba.
